​Here at Affordable Mobile Car Detailing today, we are going to talk about proper method of drying your car as part of our Car Maintenance Wash series. We are going to cover different ways of drying your car and also steps and products to avoid ensuring your paintwork stays in the best condition.

Drying your car is the second crucial step in maintaining your car swirl and scratch free. The first crucial step is the 2-bucket method wash that we covered earlier.
 
Throw away your swirl-instiller, out dated chamois (shammy). Contrary to popular belief, chamois does more harm than good. Why you may ask? Chamois ‘grabs’ to your paintwork aggressively. Yes it does dry your car extremely well, but can you imagine if there’s any fine dirt or dust in-between your paintwork and chamois? Welcome to swirl city, pal. 

​Microfibre Drying/Microfibre Waffle Weave Towels

Pros: Microfibre Drying Towels are designed specially for drying your car after a wash; it’s made of high GSM and deep pile fibres. Prepare 2-3 towels to dry your car. More often or not, the first towel gets too wet after drying the first half of the car. Change towels and finish drying up the rest of the car.

Cons: Unable to wash several cars at once unless you have a huge supply of drying towels. It’s hard to dry crevices and panel gaps.

Air Dry with Air Blower/Air Compressor (For Coated/Paint Protected Cars)
 
Pros: This method works better with coated cars, reason being is generally cars that are coated with ceramic coatings tend to be hydrophilic or hydrophobic (sheets off or forms into beads) and they do not adhere to the surface. Air dry will be able to dry your car perfectly without any physical contact, ensuring 100% safe drying, it even pushes out water from crevices between panels, side mirrors and windows gap!

Cons: Time Consuming compared to Microfibre Drying Towels

The best method is to combine both Microfibre Drying together with Air Dry to achieve the most efficient and safest drying. 

Please take note: Our tap water and rain water in Australia is not 100% pure, it contains some others minerals. Do not leave a car to dry by itself as it will most likely to cause water etching and marks that needs to be rectified almost immediately, even for coated cars. 

Drying Aid, Quick Detailer, Gloss Enhancer, SiO2 Spray Sealants

Using a microfibre drying towel is great. However, unless the drying towel is 100% clean, it will have very minor streaks and is hard to spot with the untrained eye. Using a drying aid is highly recommend after drying, not only it leaves you a perfect finish, it also adds a layer of protection on your paintwork!

​Today at Affordable Mobile Car Detailing & Paint Protection, we are going to discuss about the 2-bucket wash method and why it’s important. Many of car owners’ washes their with the wrong methods, especially using only one bucket. One bad wash can cause some major damages to the car’s paintwork.
 
The 2-bucket wash method is the safest way to wash your vehicle without causing any damages such as swirl marks, scratches, and general dullness. Without the 2-bucket wash method, whenever you wash your car you are constantly rubbing dirt on to the car’s paintwork (cross contamination from the same bucket)

​Things you’ll need.
- Two Buckets
- Grit Guards (Optional but highly recommended)
- Shampoo and wash mitt
- High Quality Microfibre Drying Towel

Fill up 2 buckets with grit guards with water, and then pour a couple of caps of shampoo into one of the buckets.
Start by soaking your wash mitt into the shampoo bucket, start washing a panel in back and fourth motion.
Dip your wash mitt into your clean water bucket and scrub your wash mitt with the grit guards underneath.

​Repeat the process until you have washed the entire car, and then rinse all the suds away and dry it with your high quality Microfibre Drying Towel. You can follow up with a spray wax or quick detailer as a drying aid to enhance your vehicle’s gloss!

​Step 1: Preparation
- Dilute Snow Foam with water, it is usually 1:10. Sometimes some products will have different dilution so check first before you mixed it up.
- Fill up 2 Buckets with water and put 2-3 caps of shampoo in one of the buckets.
 
Step 2: Pre-Wash
- Apply Snow Foam with the snow foam lance and apply a nice and thick layer over the entire car. Let it sit for about 3 to 5 minutes. In the meantime, you can take some of the detailing brushes and thoroughly brush the grilles and crevices. 

​Step 3: Rinse
- High Pressure Rinse thoroughly over the whole car 

Step 4: Wash  
- Take your wash mitt, dip it into the shampoo mixed bucket. Wash a quarter of a panel each time. Start from the roof and work your way down. After each quarter of a panel, rinse the wash mitt in the plain water bucket and repeat the process above. 

Step 5: Rinse
- High Pressure Rinse thoroughly over the whole car

Step 6: Drying your car 
- Use your microfibre drying towel to dry over your car. Carry 2 to 3 Towels with you because usually a towel will get too wet after about 1/3 of the car. 

Step 7: Final Touch 
- Use a high quality spray wax or quick detailer, spray and wipe over the whole car, panels by panels.
